06-21-2010: Summer Crime Spree

I've warned my wife that I thought this would be a tough summer in Peoria. Down economic times and the school closings and consolidation could make for a dangerous summer, I warned. Recent reports seem to be confirming my concerns.

Notice, that my warnings are born out of concern, not worry. No need to worry, but it is wise to be aware of the danger and plan accordingly. So I share this post in the hopes of keeping my neighbors aware and prepared.
A sensible person sees danger and takes cover,
but the inexperienced keep going and are punished.

Proverbs 22:3 (HCSB)

We've updated our security system and have held family training "what to do if. . ." situations. We've posted the non-emergency Peoria Police number on the fridge and don't hesitate to call if we see something suspicious in the neighborhood. I'm passing this along for the broader benefit.

"Don't be afraid of them. Remember the great and awe-inspiring Lord, and fight for your countrymen, your sons and daughters, your wives and homes."
Nehemiah 4:14 (HCSB)

If a thief is caught in the act of breaking in, and he is beaten to death, no one is guilty of bloodshed.
Exodus 22:2 (HCSB)

2nd Amendment Rights vs Gun Control

Gun control: there were no less than 4 reported shootings this weekend, one extremely close to home. . . who says gun control laws work?

". . . [a] war-vet and a passenger were sitting in a car, looking for directions, when one or two armed gunman attempted to rob or car-jack him. The robber fired his weapon and [the] war-vet pulled his gun too and shot the robber 3 times, who remains in critical condition; the vet and his passenger are fine. . .

The debate will continue, but hopefully through it we will develop reasonable and prudent policies and procedures that address this highly controversial issue and ultimately make the church safer and more secure."
